It wasn’t so long ago we were told, ‘2% of the Forgotten Australians in Victoria, would not have much impact protesting against the Catholic Church’. Although our organization would not even represent anywhere near the 2%, The Forgotten Australians Victorian Action Group has made a difference, for the first time the Archbishop of Melbourne has come out and says it will apologise to those it abused sexually.
However this does not go far enough, there were many who were physically, mentally as well as sexually abused these people also deserve an apology as well as atonement. It has taken the Catholic Church over ten years to at long last recognize what it has done and says it is ashamed of. If it were not for the many headlines and the continuous protests outside the Catholic Church in Melbourne how much longer would we still be waiting.
Our protests have not been in vain we still have more work to do; the Archbishop seems to think he has bragging rights saying they have already compensated 300 victims, the numbers of those assaulted runs into the thousands.
The Catholic Church hides behind the Catholic Church Property Trust Act of 1907 and our State Government needs to repeal this act so the Forgotten Australians have justice.  While the church hides behind this veil, how can it be seen to have integrity.

We ask the State Government to repeal these Act.

The State Government allows the Church to be self regulated, the Forgotten Australians are at the mercy of their findings.
